If you needed a picture of the color purple, look no further.

This wine is like blackberry pie your Gramma made wafting through the house while you play Monopoly with your cousins. It is floral with violets, reminiscent of grape bubble gum and currants on the front and fennel on the mid palate. Medium bodied with a refreshing finish.

Destemmed to a stainless-steel fermentation tank. Cold soaked for 5 days before inoculation and fermented on the skins for a total of 14 days. Aged in once used French oak barrels for 18 months prior to bottling.

2018 McKahn Family Grenache

$36.00

“Jeff Runquist was the winemaker at McManis and now he has a vineyard in the foothills where we get the Grenache fruit. He is doing a great job out there. In 2016 when I called him, I called to tell him I was looking for Amador County Grenache because I had heard the variety grew well there. He was in escrow on a vineyard and he said I could have the Grenache on his property. It was totally a right place, right time situation.”

The California Shenandoah Valley is the oldest growing region in the broader Sierra Foothills Appellation. It is the most western and least elevated of its sister appellations, and warm climate varietals benefit from substantial summer heat. The hilly terrain and poor water holding capacity produce rich, highly structured wines. The soil profile for much of the valley is decomposed granite derived from the Sierra Nevada mountain range, as well as sandy loam. The high iron content gives the soil a rusted color. – McKahn Family Website
