”
The Testa vineyard was established in 1912. It is still being farmed by the same family; they are on the fifth generation. This area of the vineyard was planted around the 1960’s so it is old, but not geriatric.
The vineyard is planted in areas of Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Carignan and Grenache. The first vintage for Post & Vine was 2012 and it’s been all four of the varieties almost every year. In 2018 Grenache was so far from ripe. I just couldn’t use it. I pick them all together and ferment them together. Generally, what happens is you are waiting for the Petite Sirah tannins to be acceptable. Carignan pretty much hits right and stays there. Zinfandel at that point will be pretty ripe. And then the Grenache is just ripe enough. Ganache gives you structure and crunchiness. But in 2018, the Grenache was not ripe in November so I just couldn’t put it in.
I made it to be a wine that can age but it doesn’t have to. I really wanted to be a wine that you could pick up on a Wednesday night. It’s a pizza wine, it’s a pasta wine, grilled foods. I want it to be priced so that people can feel comfortable just opening it up.”
