A real powerhouse of a wine. Big black fruit on the nose- blackberries and black currant, cocoa and violets. The flavors are savory theme, cherry and plum. It is  chewy and rich, but still fully balanced and refreshing. I have not had a ton of domestic Sangiovese and this wine makes me question my decisions.

Fully destemmed, 7 day cold soak, aged 18 months, never racked. Filtered before bottling.

Like the Snows of Yesteryear, Saint K

$50.00

LABEL: “My favorite movie is Inglourious Bastards. Brad Pitt’s character is undercover as an Italian movie director and keeps mispronouncing the name Gorlomi and saying GorLAHHmi and so that was the working title for a while, but I knew we couldn’t call the wine Gorlami. There is another scene where a guy quotes a French poet, and the line is “like the snows of yesteryear,” which I took to mean gone. This wine was only 70 cases, so I took that to mean gone too. I put a WWI Italian pistol on the label. It’s a beast.”

The fruit for this wine comes from White Hawk Vineyard, in Santa Barbara County. This is another vineyard that would be in the Los Alamos AVA, should they eventually be granted designation. It is planted at 900 feet on pure sand dunes, so the vines have to work extra hard to survive and therefore produce small yields of super intense and aromatic fruit.

We're on a break!

Don’t worry. We are coming back better than ever in 2024!

While Ownroot Collective  will continue to focus on winemaker side-projects, we will now offer 4 shipments per year, shipped automatically.

You can still shop for wine any time, and we will still offer lots of content, connection, and virtual tastings with winemakers.

We hope you will join us for our newest adventure!
