The fruit for this wine is sourced from the David Girard Vineyard in El Dorado County. The vineyard is farmed organically and sits at 1,500 feet.

From Jeremy: "I knew I wanted to make a white sparkling in the ancestral method, but I didn’t know what grapes in the vineyard would do well. I sampled all the grapes in the David Girard vineyard until I found the right one, Roussanne. I had never seen a sparkling Roussanne before and what I thought would just be a fun project turned out to be something quite refined and has become one of my favorites."

Our first wine made just for Ownroot! When we tasted with Tom back in April of 2022, he was sold out of his McCormack Ranch sparkling. He had disgorged around 190 bottles and sold it all in about a month (because it is so good). He offered to do a special Ownroot Collective disgorging project in the fall for us. He disgorged these bottles in August, so they would be ready for this break into the holidays Sparkling offering. I feel pretty stoked to be able to commit to this project and confident that Ownroot members will love this wine!

McCormack Ranch is really special spot in Solano County in the Montezuma Hills south of Rio Vista, right on the Sacramento River. It has sandy soils with lots of drainage and is also used as a working sheep farm and grain farm. It is being farmed by fifth generation farmer Charley Hamilton.

This is our third time working with Loubud, so that is a record for Ownroot Collective revisits, and I could not be more thrilled about it. Laura has knocked it out of the park again, this time over doubling her production because this wine sold out so fast last time.

The Pinot Noir for this vintage come from both the Cebada Vineyard and the newly added Rancho La Viña. This allowed Laura to over double her production on this wine to a whopping 5 barrels. The dosage was done with bottles of the 2020 vintage that were kept on triage which I also think is super cool.

Alder Springs Vineyard is in the town of Laytonville deep in the heart of Mendocino. How deep? Down the road from Hog Farm, America’s oldest hippie commune, deep. Stu Bewley farms the land and while he may be no hippie, he brings to the table a similar willingness to experiment along with a reverence for the land. You can see this experimentation in the many varieties planted besides our vines. Petite Arvine growing alongside Falanghina? You could really put together a helluva field blend. The vines benefit from regenerative farming techniques with luxuriant cover crops amidst a bucolic setting that is a nice break from the usual vineland monoculture. The ranch is 6,000 total acres but of this only 200 acres is grapes. Does this pose special challenges? Only if you consider the annual loss of crops due to bears coming through and eating them a challenge.
