This wine is everything YES. It is deep with notes of Maraschino cherry, reminiscent of a boozy cocktail. It makes me think that I am in the kitchen and someone is crushing cherries to make me a cocktail. There are roses galore, along with cornflower, black tea and strawberry.  The finish goes on forever and you will want to take this wine on a date to a fancy dinner and buy it a really nice meal.

This wine was hand harvested and fermented with native yeasts. It was aged in neutral French oak barrels for 11 months and then bottled unfined and unfiltered, so vegan.

2012 Lumina Valdiguié

$38.00

The Valdiguié that I work with is from Paso Robles Highlands, which people usually associate with Shandon and think of as being super hot, but the Valdiguié has pretty good acidity. I think that’s just the nature of that grape itself. It’s from a vineyard that’s been in the same family for a couple of generations. The son Daniel checks in with me often and will say, “Hey, I’m drinking your wine right now.” It’s awesome. It feels so great to work with a family owned vineyard.

The vineyard is named Shell Creek because it used to be the bottom of the ocean, and now there is a creek running through all these beautiful marine sediment soils. I love it, it feels like I’m like walking on the moon. You’re in the middle of nowhere when you’re driving out there, but then all of a sudden, there’s this beautiful vineyard that pops up. It’s really a remarkable place.”

Well hello there.
