This opens with the meaty asphalt of Mouvédre and evolves to the bright juicy cherry of Carignan. Brambly plum and fruit tea notes make this quaffable but also complicated and shapeshifting. This benefits from being decanted and allowed to open and evolve.

The fruit for this wine is 25% whole cluster, and allowed to ferment naturally. It was aged in neutral French Oak for 10 months.

2018 Thereafter Sandy Lane Carignan / Mourvédre blend

$28.00

This wine comes from the aptly named Sandy Lane Vineyard in Contra Costa county. The vines are 70+ years old and are own rooted in sand and dry farmed, reaching deep into the sand to find a water source. The vineyard is a field blend of Carignan and Mourvédre. These California Field blends were popular when Italians immigrated to the area in the 1800’s, many of these original plantings still survive and produce some of our favorite complex bottles, reminiscent of Old World flavors.
