The color of this wine has been dubbed by my household as “MacBook Rose Gold.” The nose is fresh strawberry, tart cranberry and honeydew. There is a waxiness to the wine, not unlike a Roussanne. Lots of beeswax and green herbs with a white flowers in the background and some grapefruit rind. There is both minerality and weight to the wine with viscosity and texture that makes me want to have some food with this. Maybe a roast chicken.

This wine was picked specifically for white wine and is only free run juice. Fermented natively in stainless steel. Malolactic fermentation was inhibited by sulfur. Aging was for 6 months, trace sulfer at bottling.

2019 Gamay Blanc, #8 by Hollyhock Lodge

$20.00

The idea to try a Gamay Blanc came from El Lugar in the Russian River. They make a Pinot Noir Blanc that Tim tried in 2018 and was quite taken with. There are other wineries who produce white wine from a red varietal, in my opinion with varied success. (I have not tried the El Lugar personally, but I am now keen to try it) In 2018 Tim decided to pick this lot extra early and use just the free run for this wine. The free run is the juice that flows naturally from grapes just under their own weight before it is pressed. It does not pick up much color, since the color is generally from the skins, so the resulting wine will be light to white.

He used the pressed juice for a Rosé, which sounds delightful and I hope to taste subsequent vintages before they sell out.
