Blackberry, boysenberry, blueberry all the dark berries with a kiss of the tart raspberry or even pomegranate and cranberry. There is black pepper, white pepper and and all spice. This wine is just lovely and hits all the marks. It has the dark broody notes of Syrah with a lifted elegance from the Viognier co-ferment.

The fruit was left on skins for 14 days, naturally fermented at low temperatures, with partial whole cluster inclusion. The wine was aged on the lees for 18 months in French oak barrels, one new. 65 cases produced.

2019 Gondak Cellars Syrah

$38.00

“This Syrah Viognier is a  co-ferment from Knights Valley. They are grown right next to each other. I pick them together, throw them all in the tank. This one was aged for 18 months. I’ve done between 18 and 22 months but this one didn’t need more time.I’ve learned from making wines for certain people, you really don’t want to over age your wines.

The Lawer Estate is situated in the Mayacamas Range, 2.5 miles west of Calistoga. This little gem of a vineyard sits on a south facing slope of the Franz Valley in the south western Knights Valley AVA of Sonoma County. Well drained soils coupled with the surprisingly cool mountain-valley microclimate of the Franz Valley make this an ideal location to grown both Syrah and Viognier. The Lawer Estate is farmed by the well regarded team of Pina Vineyard Management using certified sustainable practices. 2019 provided a nearly ideal growing season in Sonoma County.”
