This wine is strawberries, iron, soy, violets, chestnuts and plums. In that order. It is totally enjoyable, light in color, I like it both chilled or not. It is zippy and herby and has red fruit, brown sugar and orange zest on the palate. If this wine was a person it would be a punk rocker who secretly volunteers at the old peoples home.

This wine was fermented naturally and aged in neutral French oak for 16 months. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.

50 cases produced.

2020 Kings Carey Mourvédre

$34.00

James: “This is a brand new vineyard. It was originally planted with all Tuscan style grapes. The vineyard was diseased and needed to be dealt with. I’m not a huge fan of Italian varieties or going for that Italian style here in California, let the Italians do it. They do an amazing job.

So it got purchased and the new owner didn’t know what to do with it. But he knew Jeff from Liquid Farm and Jeff introduced him to me. We started talking and it’s just three acres and a real pain to sample because it is all rolling hills. It is set back in the hills and is a little drier, which is perfect because he was more interested in Mourvedre in the Bandol style. We needed Grenache and Mourvèdre for Liquid Farm, and then we added in a little Cinsault and Carignan.”

We're on a break!

Don’t worry. We are coming back better than ever in 2024!
