All wine nerds should have this wine in front of them. It has great acid and is a boatload of fun, but it is also focused and precise. This is everything I want a Zinfandel to be- pink peppercorn, cardamom, lavender, strawberry, eucalyptus, terra cotta and Valrhona milk chocolate. Why, oh why, do we hate on Zinfandel? This incredible vineyard is a field blend of love, and I wish everyone could taste this magic.

The vineyard is a field blend, mixed variety compilation of 10 varieties: 85% Zinfandel while Mission, Grenache, Alicante Bouschet, Carignane, Syrah, Petit Sirah, Mourvedre, Cinsaut & Flame Tokay comprise the remaining. The grapes were fermented using native yeasts & minimally handled until bottling after 11 months in neutral barrels. Unfined, unfiltered, vegan.

5 barrels produced.

2020 Perlegos Zinfandel

Zinfandel, the American wine darling, has a history as vibrant as its flavors. Although it’s often associated with California, its roots can be traced back to Croatia, where it’s known as “Crljenak Kaštelanski.” Zinfandel found its true calling in California during the Gold Rush era, and it’s been flourishing there ever since. When you uncork a bottle of Zinfandel, you’re in for a treat. Its taste is like a burst of ripe blackberries and cherries, often with a hint of spice or black pepper. It’s as if you’re sipping a glass of American history, a taste of California’s sun-kissed vineyards, and a dash of the Old World charm all at once. Zinfandel is a testament to the diversity and innovation of the American wine scene. 🍇🍷🌄
