This wine has ALL the cherries: Bing, red, black, Rainier, Queen Anne, Maraschino. I could go on. You get it. All of them. It also shows plum, pomegranate, nutmeg, violets, and pink and black peppercorns. On the palate it shows high acidity and youthful dry blackberry laden tannins.

Hand harvested Sept 13th from Mosby Vineyard, it was 100% de-stemmed.  Punched down twice daily and basket pressed after 11 days on skins, it was aged for 7 months in 100% neutral French oak barrels, and went through 100% malolactic fermentation.  It was racked to tank and rough filtered before bottling, it was not fined or sterile filtered. Final Girl 2021 Dolcetto

$34.00

Dolcetto. Dolcetto is most prominently planted in Piedmont, the region in northwest Italy that is also home to Barolo, Barbaresco, and Barbera. In many ways, it shares more in common with Barbera, which is also intended to be opened without much time in the cellar, as opposed to Barolo and Barbaresco, which tend to benefit from more age. There are some Dolcetto wines that can age for a few years, but the majority of Dolcetto bottles are best opened up in their youth, the better to appreciate their vivid fruit. (Food & Wine)

According the California grape report there are only 71 acres planted to Dolcetto in California, so if you are not familiar with it, don’t worry. It is uncommon here, despite being widely popular in Italy. It is characterized by cherries, spice and violets. Pairs with red sauce, and anything that red sauce is involved with – pizza, lasagna, bolognese, that kind of thing.
